Chronic pain

When Nothing Else Has Worked for Your Chronic Pain

If you've already tried the standard routes without lasting relief, here's a different way of looking at where chronic pain actually comes from.

If you've already seen a doctor, a physiotherapist, and maybe even another osteopath about a pain that just won't resolve, you've probably started to wonder if you're simply going to have to live with it. That's a reasonable conclusion to reach — and also, often, not the full picture.

Why treatment sometimes plateaus

Most conventional treatment for pain focuses on the place where the pain is felt: a sore shoulder gets treated at the shoulder, a stiff lower back gets treated at the lower back. That approach works well for a great many cases. But when pain has already been through that process without lasting improvement, it's worth asking a different question: is the site of the pain actually where the problem started?

In organic and visceral osteopathy, the working hypothesis is that some chronic pain is a downstream effect — a knock-on consequence of restricted mobility somewhere else in the body, often around an internal organ, rather than a fault in the joint or muscle itself. That's a genuinely different starting point from most standard treatment protocols, and it's the reason some people find relief here after other approaches haven't worked.

A different way of assessing you

Rather than following a generic protocol for "shoulder pain" or "lower back pain," each session starts with your specific history — what happened before the pain began, any past surgeries or illnesses, and how your body has responded to previous treatment. From there, treatment is built around what's actually found during assessment, not a one-size-fits-all routine.

And if, after evaluating you, it doesn't look like this approach is the right fit for your case, I'll say so directly. That's not a marketing line — a treatment plan built on the wrong premise wastes your time and money, and I'd rather be honest about it upfront.

Two ways to start

If you're based in or visiting Barcelona, in-person sessions are available at either the Barcelona city practice or the El Masnou location. If you're not yet in the city, or simply want to talk through your case before committing to a visit, a 45-minute online video assessment is available as a first step — a way to ask questions and get a clearer sense of whether this makes sense for you.

This is a hands-on, non-invasive manual therapy, and results vary from person to person — there's no universal guarantee, and it's not a replacement for medical care when that's what's needed. What I can offer is a genuinely different starting point after other approaches haven't given you the answer you were looking for.
